Activities for kids at home

Ideas for activities and playing
games with your child at home

Role-play everyday life

Play shops, cafés, doctors, or families using old clothes, empty food boxes, and toys. Join in by following your child’s lead and adding gentle language.

Storytelling together

Read books, then act them out with toys or make up new endings. You can also create your own stories using pictures cut from magazines.

Creative art time

Paint, draw, collage, or build with recycled materials. Focus on the process, not the finished product—ask questions like “Tell me about what you made.”

Music and movement play

Sing songs, make instruments from household items, dance, or play “freeze.” This supports coordination, listening skills, and confidence.

Outdoor exploration

Go on nature walks, hunt for shapes or colours, collect leaves or stones, or dig and pour in the garden. Outdoor play is powerful and calming.

Construction and building

Use blocks, Lego, cardboard boxes, or cushions to build towers, roads, or dens. Talk about size, balance, and problem-solving as you play.

Sensory play

Try water play, sand, rice, pasta, playdough, or mud. Sensory play helps with focus, language, and emotional regulation.

Everyday play routines

Turn daily tasks into play—sorting laundry by colour, cooking together, or setting the table. Talk through what you’re doing to build vocabulary.

Follow their interests

If your child loves dinosaurs, cars, animals, or princesses—lean into it. Bring that interest into books, play, drawing, and conversations.
