Classroom Activities

A selection of simple, adaptable classroom activities that support active learning, teamwork, turn-taking and confidence — suitable for a wide range of ages and subjects.

🎯 Think–Pair–Share

A quick activity that encourages every learner to participate. Give the class a question or topic, allow a minute to think independently, then ask learners to discuss their ideas with a partner before sharing with the group. This activity builds speaking skills and helps quieter learners feel more comfortable contributing.

🖼️ Picture Prompt Discussions

Show an image connected to your topic and ask learners to describe what they notice, predict what might happen next, or create a short story. This works well for language learning, creative writing, and critical thinking because there are no “wrong” answers.

🧩 Station Rotation

Set up different activity stations around the classroom — for example vocabulary practice, problem-solving tasks, creative drawing, or role-play. Small groups rotate every few minutes, keeping energy levels high and allowing learners to experience the lesson in different ways.

🎲 Foam Dice Challenge (example activity)

Select a set of flashcards.com flashcards, insert them into the foam dice, as a group, take turns to roll the dice. Depending on your chosen theme, the children can take it in turns to act out the image, use a 1 minute timer and ask the child to share what they know about the image eg. Lion – fierce, roars, you could add prompts such as, where do they live? etc. As the outcome is random and playful, it reduces pressure and encourages spontaneous speaking, laughter, and collaboration.

💬 Question Circle

Learners stand or sit in a circle and take turns asking and answering simple questions related to the lesson. You can add a soft ball or timer to keep the pace moving. This helps build listening skills, confidence, and respectful turn-taking.

✏️ Creative Mini-Projects

Give small groups a short challenge — design a poster, invent a game, or create a mini presentation using new vocabulary or key concepts. Projects encourage ownership of learning and allow different strengths (speaking, drawing, organising) to shine.
